Deaf Education in Haiti

In Haiti there are many misunderstandings surrounding deafness: it was caused by the parents sin, the witch doctor cursed them, deafness is contagious, a deaf child can not learn. As a result of this stigma, deaf education is practically unheard of. A deaf child is often ignored and left to himself. He will most likely agrow up as an outcast, an imbecile. This child will grow up without a language and with very little ability to communicate. How can someone who has never been taught a language learn about Jesus? How can he know that Christ died for him and that his sins may be forgiven, if he is not first given an education.

My mission is to give deaf persons an education (a language and communication skills) so that then they may know who Jesus is and will accept him as their savior. I will be working with Maranatha Christian School for the Deaf this school was started in 2016 by Harry and Melissa Peart. Since then they have been praying for someone to come and help in the deaf school. The goal of this ministry is to give deaf persons and education for the primary purpose of leading souls to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Another aspect of this ministry is to educate the community about deafness in order to reduce the stigma and misunderstanding surrounding deafness. We also wish to help establish deaf ministries in the local churches in Haiti.
